As a result of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s alleged failure to distribute the N2 billion federal government gasoline subsidy removal palliative for the underprivileged in the state, the All Progressives Congress, APC in Osun State has expressed alarm.

It’s concerning that Governor Adeleke is still unsure about what to do with the money, according to Osun APC Chairman Tajudeen Lawal, who issued a statement on Saturday sounding the alarm.

The delay in the release of the N2 billion by Adeleke as and when due is a pure act of wickedness and indication of lack of empathy by the PDP administration for the needy in the state,” Lawal stated.

If the rumor circulating in the state that the state government has fixed in the bank the aforementioned N2bn in order to take an excessive advantage of the accrued interest is accurate, “Governor Adeleke and his co-travellers should tread with caution.”

The head of the Osun APC told Adeleke that he shouldn’t wait for people to starve to death before doing something constructive about distributing the money to the needy.

“If the Adeleke administration is callous, insensitive, and wicked enough not to activate its own arrangement to cushion the effects of the fuel subsidy removal for the people of the state, it should not be a stumbling block to share the ones provided by the federal government led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

He recalled that the rice palliative was not distributed by Governor Adeleke until he was riled up and pressed by the state’s main opposition party, and that the distribution was carried out in a sloppy fashion with the sole intention of benefiting supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The government of Osun State, however, quickly responded by calling the APC’s accusations “mere rhetoric.”

The Adeleke administration issued a warning to the people of the state, warning them not to fall for the opposition’s attempts to turn them against them.

The State Government, in a statement issued by Kolapo Alimi, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, expressed regret that the APC is relying on false information to win back the support of the people.

While guaranteeing that the N2bn is secure and will be applied to recipients in a transparent way, the state government emphasized its commitment to transparency and the prudent administration of any resource under its control.

As an example of just how low the APC has stooped, they have begun spreading “outrageous claims” that the government is hoarding N2bn in cash received from the FG. The APC has been constant in spreading conspiracy theories and urban legends about the Adeleke administration in order to mislead the people of Osun.

“Osun people will take note that the Osun State Government announced the receipt of the N2bn fund from FG; however, to guide against the kind of experience of the abuse that featured prominently in the past, the Adeleke administration is carefully considering the utilization of the fund, especially when it is not a free gift as Osun APC erroneously tried to paint.”

Since the APC’s actions are motivated by politics rather than genuine care for the Osun people’s well-being, we urge them to reject the party’s theatrics. It was underlined in the statement that the Adeleke administration is “working within available resources to cushion the impact” of the elimination of the fuel subsidy.
