Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, the country’s former vice president, has spoken out in response to the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal ruling that upheld INEC’s declaration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the election’s victor on February 25, 2023.
His media office issued a statement he personally signed, in which he hailed the PEPT verdict as a triumph for democracy and the rule of law.
“The ruling is a great victory for Nigeria’s constitutional democracy and the rule of law,” he said.
Osinbajo, who campaigned for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and finished third, behind Bola Tinubu and former Transport Minister Chibuike Amaechi, believes that the country’s democracy has been reinforced as a result.
He argued that the election was a success for democracy since all parties had followed the rules of the electoral process and had turned to the courts in the event of a disagreement.
Having congratulated Tinubu, Kashim Shettima, and the APC, the author states that Nigeria “needs all of us to work together to address our challenges and to deliver the realization of the incredible potential of our country.”
