According to Fubara, the goal of Ehie’s resignation was to create the conditions for state peace.

At an event in Port Harcourt, he revealed this to dignitaries that included the former governor of the state, Peter Odili, and his spouse, Mary.

Fubara claims: “Therefore, whatever it takes, as evidenced by our decisions yesterday, the majority of you were concerned about the speaker’s resignation. I am telling you what we can do to bring about peace.

“What we want to gain is not the main concern. It has nothing to do with the power we wish to use. But consider what we are leaving behind for our people at the end of the day.

In the midst of the disagreement between the governor and Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ehie, a legislator and speaker of the state assembly, resigned in loyalty to Fubara.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, received a letter from Ehie resigning on December 29, 2023.
