Abuja Bus Rapid Transportation System is underway – FCTA

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has announced intentions to implement a Bus Rapid traffic System to alleviate traffic difficulties in Abuja, the federal capital.

Dr Abdulateef Bello, Director of Road Traffic Services at DRTS, made the announcement at an engagement with stakeholders in Abuja on Monday.

Bello also stated that the administration has finished arrangements to send in buses powered by compressed natural gas to address Abuja’s mass transit difficulties.

He invited stakeholders to participate in the policy that will make a difference in the Abuja transportation ecosystem.

According to him, once obtained and deployed to various routes, the buses will take care of the rickety cars and taxis that have been causing problems on Abuja roads.

The director also revealed that arrangements have been finalized to recapture the territory’s 46 taxi racks and reorganize the ranks for licensed operators.

He added that the need to standardise Abuja’s transportation infrastructure became imperative as the city grew rapidly.

“Abuja cannot be left without an organised transportation system that will meet the needs of all citizens,” he went on to say.
