The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressive Congress, APC, has denounced the State Government’s alleged removal of essential Shari’a components.

It said that the action was taken by the government via a circular issued by Lawal Hussain, the permanent Secretary for Cabinet Affairs.

The seven components, according to the party, are the Quranic Recitation and Tajweed Agency, the Shari’a Research and Development Commission, the Public Complaint Commission, the Anti-Corruption Commission, the Directorate for Quranic Schools and Islamic Organization, Islamic preachings and Jumaat Mosques, and the Eid praying grounds Establishment Regulation Commission.

This was stated in a news release released by Mallam Yusuf Idris, the Zamfara APC publicity secretary.

“These elements were critical in fostering Islamic practices, education, and governance within the State; their removal has raised concerns about the future of these initiatives.”

The party contended that Governor Lawal’s decision was a substantial break from the State’s fundamentals, as practically all of the population is Muslim.

“Of particular concern is the expulsion of the Ulama Consultative Council, UCC, from Government House, with its secretariat being transferred to the governor’s wife, who has no recognized constitutional role in governance.

” The UCC was formed to advise the governor on Islamic affairs and to guarantee that the government’s activities are consistent with Shari’ah standards.

“Governor Lawal’s actions have called into question his dedication to Islamic practices and his understanding of their significance in Zamfara State.” Critics claim that removing these components will lead to the deterioration of Islamic principles and practices, potentially disrupting the Muslim community.

“Additionally, the abolition of institutions such as the Qur’anic Recitation and Tajweed Agency and the Sharia Research and Development Commission has raised concerns about the state’s ability to adequately support Islamic education and research,” the party noted.

The APC urged Governor Lawal to rescind his decision and reinstate the Shari’ah implementation commissions that had been disbanded.
