In the 2023/24 Nigeria Premier Football League season, secret assessors will be deployed to match venues to monitor the activities of referees and clubs.
The concept was unveiled by Davidson Owumi, the NPFL’s Chief Operating Officer, as part of the league body’s efforts to improve officiating.
The measure would help to improve officiating in Nigeria’s top division.
It would also ensure that referees are no longer forced to do their jobs.
The assessors will provide vital intelligence about match officials’ behavior on the field and will prevent intimidation of match officials at any time throughout their duties.
The 2023/24 NPFL season will begin this weekend with eight matches spread across eight different venues.
