The Army emphasizes the need of battle-focused training in combating security concerns

Major General Jamal Abdussalam, General Officer Commanding, 6 Division Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt, has emphasized the importance of realistic and battle-focused training in order to effectively address security threats within the 6 Division Area of Responsibility.

Abdussalam, who is also the Land Component Commander, Joint Task Force, South South, Operation Delta Safe, made the announcement at the 6 Division Training School in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, at the launch of Exercise Shinning Star IV.

The GOC 6 Division, represented by Brigadier General Babatunde Omopariola, Chief of Staff, 6 Division, reiterated that the purpose of the exercise is to provide a common platform for harmonized post-basic training to selected young soldiers following their initial military training at Depot Nigerian Army.

According to Major Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, Acting Deputy Director of 6 Division, Army Public Relations, “the training is designed to improve the soldiers’ knowledge and capability to effectively counter current security challenges in a complex operating environment, particularly within the Division Area.”

The GOC charged the participants with taking use of the training opportunity provided in order to enhance their abilities and perform their tasks professionally.

According to the statement, “the exercise is in line with the Command Philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff, which is to Transform the Nigerian Army into a Well-Trained, Equipped, and Highly Motivated Force Towards Achieving the Constitutional Responsibilities within a Joint Environment.”

Earlier, the Acting Division Training Officer, Lt Col Abdullahi Manu, stated that the training is aimed at developing participants’ abilities, increasing their confidence in weapon handling, and teaching them team maneuver skills, with an emphasis on minor tactics, tactical drills, and live firing.
