Rangnick was forced to choose between Cristiano Ronaldo, whom he would manage, and Lionel Messi of Paris Saint-Germain.

Instead, the 63-year-old chose former Argentina captain Diego Maradone and Johan Cryuff, who helped Barcelona build an eye-catching brand of play.

“Right now, we have Cristiano [Ronaldo], Lionel Messi, and Robert Lewandowski, so it’s difficult to pick just one of them.”

“I would say Diego and Johan are definitely two who should be named,” Rangnick went on to remark.

The German is set to take command of United’s first Premier League game on Sunday, when they host Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.

Rangnick, who received his UK work permit this week, was in the stands on Wednesday as Ronaldo scored twice in a 3-2 triumph over Arsenal.
