Posted by Chevron’s Escravos Gas To Liquid (EGTL) project in Delta State has been shut down by protestors.
Anger-filled demonstrators from the Ugborodo community in the Warri South Local Government Area forced the facility to close on Tuesday, accusing the business of failing to implement the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) and making other demands.
The demonstrators demanded, among other things, that Chevron execute Ikpere-HCDT in accordance with the NUPRC. “The superintendents now employ their families instead of jobless indigenes,” they also grumbled.
While some protesters demanded that Chevron follow the laws and ordinances of the host community, others argued that the business “cannot employ only the 2019/2020 section of workers in the ongoing turnaround maintenance.”
