The drill was started by Governor Alex Otti at the 14 Brigade Step-Up Headquarters in Isuochi, which is located in the state’s Umunneochi Local Government Area.

Otti, through his Special Assistant on Security, Mr. Macdonald Uba, expressed optimism that the exercise will help root out criminal elements hiding in the state’s cracks and crevices.

He added that it will provide the armed forces and other security agencies more motivation to lower crime and criminal activity throughout the state throughout the holiday season.

Officers and men participating in the exercise were advised by the governor to abide by the Code of Conduct and Rules of Engagement.

He said, “This is to prevent any activity that could violate the host community’s and the citizens’ rights.

“May I reassure the Nigerian Army and other security agencies in Abia of our unwavering support, within the constraints of the resources at hand, to help them fulfill their constitutional duties?”

The Nigerian Army’s 14 Brigade Commander, Brig.-Gen. Nsikak Edet, stated in his welcome speech that Operation Golden Dawn III is one of the exercises the Army in the South-East has started.

He said that the goal of the exercise was to make law-abiding citizens feel more secure throughout the holiday season.
