In a decision that was handed down on Friday evening, the court stated that the appeal that had been filed before it by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate for governor, General Aminu Bande, was without merit and so dismissed it.

The Appellate Court resolved all five questions that were framed for consideration in favor of the governor and against the PDP in a ruling that was delivered by Justice Ndukwe Anyanwu and was reached by the court in a unanimous vote.

According to the ruling made by Justice Anyanwu, the claims of forgery of testimonial that were presented against the Deputy Governor of the State, Abubakar Umar Tafida, were not substantiated as required by law.

She also decided that the concerns of non-compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act in the conduct of the election could not stand because the appellants failed to explain how the accusations substantially influenced the election. She came to this conclusion because the appellants failed to prove how the claims substantially affected the election.

After that, Justice Anyanwu upheld the decision of the Kebbi State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, which had earlier rejected the petition filed by the PDP and validated the election of the governor.
