The appeal came in the aftermath of the kidnapping of female students at the Federal University of Gusau in Zamfara State.

Professor Tukur Muhammad Baba, the forum’s spokesman, said in a statement issued in Kaduna on Sunday: “It is with utter consternation that the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) received news about the abduction of mostly female students of the Federal University Gusau (FUGUS) from their private hostels at Sabon Gida Village, Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State.”

While official information on the incident is limited, personal testimonies from witnesses show that the attack was well-planned, organized, and carried out by bandits and terrorists.

According to the statement, female students were targeted, and the bandits arrived at the crime site completely prepared, so that despite the efforts of Nigerian Army personnel, they fled with an undetermined number of helpless victims.

ACF strongly condemned the abductions and urged the Federal Government to go to all length to ensure that the abducted students were returned safely.

The meeting also encouraged the Federal Government to restructure Nigeria’s security architecture and develop new multi-pronged containment measures for security and related existential risks plaguing schools and communities in general.

According to ACF, such new tactics should strive to completely eradicate the plague of banditry and terrorism across the country.
