Richards further stated that Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, has been receiving criticism, and he does not think the Citizens are “complacent.”

Guardiola recently made a crude jab at him and his fellow Sky Sports analysts Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville, which prompted him to make these remarks.

“The Man City team demonstrated its character, but I wasn’t surprised by that in the slightest. After Man City’s Premier League victory over Luton Town over the weekend, Richards told MOTD2, “Whenever people talk negatively about them, it just spurs them on.”

Although I wouldn’t characterize Pep [Guardiola] as touchy lately, it seems like he is accepting criticism and responding with, “Well, if that is what you think, we will show you,” and the team as a whole shares this mindset.

“They’ll fight until the very end, even if I don’t think they’ll win the title. It will be really close if someone else beats them to it.

“I don’t think Gary was looking for the right word when he used the word complacent.”
