On Monday, Kingsley Emu, Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and Chairman of the State Steering Committee for Palliative Distribution, made the announcement in Asaba.

He also stated that an additional 16,000 bags of grains from the federal government were on their way to the state.

The distribution of food products is set to begin in 500 wards across Delta State, with the goal of minimizing the negative impacts of the elimination of gasoline subsidies on the state’s inhabitants.

Emu went on to say that the distribution would include all 25 local government areas in the state.

The distribution method calls for allocating 40% of food and fertilizer at the ward level, with an additional 20% going to needy and vulnerable households. Furthermore, 25% of the state’s intervention will help widows and disabled people, with an additional 10% reserved for urban wards and a 5% contingency reserve for local government areas.

Emu emphasized the committee’s commitment to using the state-approved Social Register in accordance with the World Bank’s poverty mapping strategy.

He emphasized that Delta State was the first to register widows as part of the federal government’s social register.

The state has already begun palliative efforts, such as the distribution of N5.522 billion for promotion areas, a three-month N10,000 payment to over 50,000 public servants, the recruitment of 2,000 primary school teachers, and a rotational working days scheme for salary grade levels 1-14, with higher levels granted flexibility in choosing their working days.

Similarly, an N40 billion pension payment is being made to local government employees.
