CAF Awards: Osimhen honors former coach Amunike, saying “he shaped my career

Victor Osimhen, a forward for the Super Eagles, has acknowledged the influence that former Golden Eaglets coach and Nigerian great Emmanuel Amunike had on his professional career.

He claimed that he would not have become the accomplished football player he is now without Amunike.

During his acceptance of the African Men’s Footballer of the Year trophy at the CAF Awards in Morocco on Monday night, the Napoli striker made this statement.

“I would not be here today without Emmanuel Amunike, so please accept my gratitude.

“I look up to Droga Bambo.” He said, “I love you all.”

Osimhen broke a 24-year curse to win the African Men’s Footballer of the Year title, which had not been won by a Nigerian player since 1999 (Janescope).

To win the prize, Osimhen overcame World Cup great Achraf Hakimi of Morocco and Mohamed Salah of Egypt.

on addition, he is the lone Nigerian player on the CAF 2023 Best XI (Men).

Osimhen’s big break came in 2015, when he won the FIFA U-17 World Cup with the Nigerian U-17 squad, and he was given the Silver Ball and the Golden Boot.

Amunike led the Nigerian U-17 squad to victory as their coach.
