Posted by Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in 2023, has reacted to reports that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is offering retirement packages to fired Service Chiefs.
According to sources, President Tinubu ordered the immediate dismissal of all former Service Chiefs, the Inspector-General of Police, and the Comptroller-General of Customs from office last month, and nominated their replacements with immediate effect in June.
According to Sowore, Tinubu sacrificed Nigerians’ interests in order to provide the fired Service Chiefs with lavish incentives in order to consolidate his regime.
Former Service Chiefs who will benefit from the package include General Lucky Irabor, the immediate previous Chief of Defence Staff; Lt. Gen. Faruk Yahaya, the Chief of Army Staff; Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo, the Chief of Naval Staff; and Air Marshal Isiaka Amao, the Chief of Air Staff.
In response to the event, Sowore stated on Twitter that the allegations of him taking over Tinubu’s administration while he was in France last month could have been real given the retirement packages he has provided the fired Service Chiefs.
The AAC candidate stated that everything Tinubu has done since becoming President has been in the best interests of his people, everything in the name of cementing his power.
“I think the rumour of their (military) plan to take out @officialABAT before his return from France might be true after all,” Sowore posted. So far, ordinary Nigerians’ interests have been sacrificed in order to consolidate Tinubu’s position.
“To appease the World Bank/IMF, he removed fuel subsidies and began defunding public education; to appease “foreign investors” and currency speculators, he floated the naira; to appease his political friends, he raided the @officialEFCC offices and carted away sensitive criminal investigations materials related to and of PEPs; and to appease the military boys, he gave them mouthwatering never-before retirement benefits. #Revolutionnow.”
