Shettima: Nigeria wants to strengthen its strategic ties with Cuba

On Thursday, Vice President Kashim Shettima stated that President Bola Tinubu’s administration hoped to strengthen ties with the Republic of Cuba.

Shettima reportedly made these remarks during a visit to Cuban Vice President Salvador Valdez Mesa at Havana’s Palace De Revolution, as per a statement released by Olusola Abiola, Director of Information, Office of the Vice President.

Shettima is in Cuba for the G77+China Leaders’ Summit (September 15-17) in Havana to represent Tinubu.

During his time in Cuba, Shettima discussed Cuba’s longstanding ties to Africa and the continent’s recent history of support for Southern Africa.

“We hold Cuba in high esteem, especially your commitment to us in Africa,” he said.

While praising the current connection, Shettima stressed the importance of recommitting to future ties between the two countries.

Our relationship has been fantastic over the years, and it’s time to take it to the next level. In order to “explore future areas of partnership,” as the Vice President put it, “I came with Ministers of Agriculture and Science, Technology, and Innovation.”

While in Cuba, Shettima delivered a personal message from President Tinubu assuring Diaz-Canel of the Nigerian government’s dedication to strengthening ties with Cuba.
