Segun Showunmi, Emefiele: “It’s Painful CBN Madness Took Place Under Buhari Of All People”

Segun Showunmi, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, has reacted to the detailed report provided by Jim Obazee, a special investigator assigned by President Bola Tinubu to investigate the operations of the Central Bank of Nigeria under its previous Governor, Godwin Emefiele.

According to the article, Obazee stated that while serving as governor of the top bank, Emefiele squandered roughly N1.622 trillion in COVID-19 assistance money.

Aside from misusing COVID-19 intervention monies, the study revealed Emefiele’s unlawful transactions and donations to numerous individuals and organizations.

The study also detailed how the former CBN governor allegedly abused former President Goodluck Jonathan’s directions about the establishment of the Nigeria Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) Stabilization Strategy Limited.

He also authorized the illicit withdrawal of $6.23 million from the CBN vault under the guise of the president’s authority to pay international election monitors.

However, Showunmi stated in a post on X that it is distressing that such levels of corruption, which he called as “madness,” could occur during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

“As soon as Jim Obaze completes his investigation into the madness that occurred in CBN, he should be transferred to another agency,” he wrote. Inec, the courts, or the Nigerian Police are my suggestions.

“So he can go through the place.” It is heartbreaking to learn that this occurred under Buhari of all people.

“As for Emefiele, we may need a unique set of marshal laws to deal with him and similar situations.” I’m not sure we have enough novels to communicate the message that this type of national betrayal requires.”
