Ratcliffe, who paid £1.3 billion for a minority share in Manchester United, plans to activate Olise’s release clause in the summer.

United have suffered with recruitment under the Glazers, but Ratcliffe is ready to assemble his own squad.

Dan Ashworth and Paul Mitchell have emerged as frontrunners to become the club’s sporting director and director of football, respectively.

Olise was a target for Chelsea and Manchester City last summer, but he elected to sign a new four-year deal with Palace.

That deal, however, featured a release clause, which will become active in the summer and is understood to be only slightly greater than the £35 million clause in his previous deal – but it was difficult to exercise.
