Obaseki praises Insurance goaltender Obasogie on being invited by the Super Eagles

Godwin Obaseki, the governor of Edo State, has congratulated Amas Obasogie, the goalkeeper for Bendel Insurance, on being invited to the Super Eagles.

In a message posted on his X account, Obaseki claimed that the Benin Arsenal goalkeeper, by placing the state on the map worldwide, had demonstrated an unwavering Edo mentality.

When Maduka Okoye of Uganda withdrew from the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Zimbabwe and Lesotho, Obasogie took over as goalie.

Obaseki emphasized the 23-year-old’s outstanding play during Bendel Insurance’s 26-game winning streak in the previous campaign and insisted that the call-up is a success for the state’s ongoing investment in the sports industry.

“We would like to extend our sincere congratulations to Amas Obasogie, our beloved Bendel Insurance goalkeeper, for being called up to the Super Eagles national team ahead of their FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.”

“You are undoubtedly one of the best shot-stoppers in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) with an outstanding record of six clean sheets in seven matches this season and an impressive run which saw Bendel Insurance sustain a 26-game unbeaten streak last season. On Thursday, November 16, Nigeria will play Lesotho at Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.

On November 16, the Super Eagles will take on Zimbabwe.
