N585 million scandal: APC chieftain to Tinubu: Monitor poverty alleviation funds

Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, an APC chieftain in Osun State, has urged President Bola Tinubu to constantly oversee the distribution of cash granted to various poverty alleviation programs.

Oyintiloye said in the midst of a misappropriation scandal involving Betta Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

According to the Janescope, Edu was accused of fraudulently transferring N585.189 million intended for the underprivileged in Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Ogun, and Lagos states into a private account.

Following great criticism, the minister stated that the payment will be subject to due process.

Tinubu’s enthusiasm for reducing poverty among the masses, according to Oyintiloye, must not be stifled by greedy persons.

Speaking to journalists in Osogbo on Sunday, the APC chieftain said that the required strategies must be put in place to guarantee that the President’s various intervention programs have a beneficial impact on the lives of less fortunate Nigerians, NAN reports.

“We have a president who monitors everything that happens in his government, which is why we have complete faith in him.”

“We must encourage and support the president in keeping a close eye on these intervention programs in order to avoid diversion.”

“Since the money is meant to alleviate poverty among the masses, every necessary strategy must be in place to ensure that allocated money have positive impact on the lives of the less privileged Nigerians,” stated the Minister of Finance.
