The Sally Humphries and Leo Smits International Scholarship was established to help international students pay for international student tuition at the University of Guelph.
Selection is based on the highest dedication to helping disadvantaged populations by past actions and community participation, as well as through future commitment as shown by the synopsis of the statement of academic intent.
Guelph University is a comprehensive public research institution located in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. It was founded in 1964 as a merger of the Ontario Agricultural College (1874), the MacDonald Institute (1903), and the Ontario Veterinary College (1922), and has since expanded to a student body of about 30,000 (including those at the Humber campus, Ridge town campus, and off-campus).
As of fall 2019, the university had 830 full-time faculty (academic staff) and 830 degree enrolments, diploma enrolments, and part-time students. It provides 94 undergraduate degrees, 48 graduate programs, and 6 associate degrees in a variety of fields.
The Biodiversity Institute of Ontario is the world’s first high-volume DNA barcoding facility, allowing for the quick identification of millions of species.
Faculty are expected to enter around 500,000 barcode analyses per year. Between 2009 and 2011, the university’s School of Engineering had a $50 million expansion in the form of new construction and upgrades.
This is in reaction to the establishment of new mechanical, biological, and computer engineering programs, increased enrollment in undergraduate and graduate programs, and increased research in sustainability-related fields.
