Abba Kabir Yusuf, candidate for Kano governor and member of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), had his vote total reduced by the tribunal.

According to the presiding judge, Justice Oluyemi Akintan Osadabey, Governor Yusuf did not receive a sufficient number of votes for his party, the NNPP, to win the election.

It claimed that some of Yusus’s votes should not have been counted.

Gawuna of the APC was successful in having his challenges based on overvoting, illegal votes, and his lack of NNPP membership dismissed by the tribunal.

The Tribunal ruled that Gawuna should be recognized as the legitimate election victor and ordered INEC to revoke the Certificate of Return previously granted to Yusuf.

She stated that according to the law’s interpretation, a candidate must be a member of a recognized political party in order to run for office, and that Abba Kabir Yusuf did not meet this requirement because he did not join the NNPP by the deadline set 30 days before the elections.

Gawuna was proclaimed the victor with 897,000 votes, while Abba received 850,000 votes when the recount was completed.
