Reports of an impeachment conspiracy against Senate President Godswill Akpabo have been brushed off as the work of “merchants of political tar brush,” in the words of Akpabo himself.
It appears to be a syndicated media onslaught, he said, coordinated from outside the National Assembly by purveyors who know very little about the inner workings of legislature. The reports were published in some dailies over the weekend.
In a statement released to the press on Saturday, Akpabio emphasized that Senators must not be sidetracked by rumors. The statement was written by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh.
After the stress of the inauguration, cabinet screening, and other positive events, senators are finishing up their vacations in their home districts and elsewhere.
We urge the media to resist the temptation to spread conspiracy rumors and protect the credibility they’ve earned over the years.
